Qatar Rugby is under the guidance of Mr. Yousef Al Kuwari - President and Mr. Ali Al Malki - General Secretary. Together they lead a team of professionals dedicated to advancing rugby development and bringing Qatar further in line with World Rugby and its regional associations.

Qatar Rugby Federation hosted the Rugby Five Nations (5N) Division II tournament in May, 2014 at Al Arabia Sports Stadium. This was the 40th anniversary of rugby being played at Qatar. The Qatar national team managed to beat Iran and Thailand however, they were defeated by Malaysia in the finals - a much more stronger and physical outfit. There were four Qatari players in the national squad including forward and current captain Abdulaziz Al Dosari and winger Mubarak Al Malik.

Rugby continues to grow locally with reported increased player and club participation. There are currently six Doha based clubs in the current principle rugby XV’s competition. They include DRFC 1’s, Dolphins, Mesaieed Lions, CNAQ, Al Kh or and the Blue Falcons. Under the newly appointed Federation, the open men’s six-team competition has now expanded to eight teams for the 2015/2016 season and will boast twelve teams by 2020.

Qatar Rugby extends its full support and encourages the continued development of other rugby teams including the juniors, colts, vets (over 35) and ladies rugby. DRFC and other Doha based clubs have enjoyed substantial success in recent years at the Dubai Seven’s competition. DRFC’s 1st XV plays in the top competitions of the West Asian league and is ranked as one of the best in the GCC.
