Blue Phoenix win Qatar XV’s League title
Blue Phoenix defated DRFC 2nd’s 30-27 to win Qatar XV’s Domestic League title at the Doha Football Stadium on Friday. The victory signals a new era in rugby development, particularly, for the French boys who were idling at the bottom on the competition table three years ago.
The win exemplifies an outstanding attitude filled with much sacrifice, determination and pain. The willingness and determination of the Phoenix did not alter all season as they led the competition table from the outset and yesterday it was that same sacrifice and grit that helped them counteract a late charge by DRFC. Congratulations to all the boys their management team and their supporters.
Also a special congratulatory and thanks to the French Ambassador, HE Mr Eric Chevallier for attending the final supporting the sport.
Sincere commiserations to the DRFC team who kept our emotions intact in the grand stand. They played exceptional rugby at times displaying tier 1 rugby ability and skills.
The game, as the score indicates, was never out of reach. Each time, the DRFC lads threatened a come-back, the Phoenix would neutralize their strategy.
However, DRFC entertained the fans with their never-say-die attitude and managed to narrow the score to three points in the dying stages.
The Qatar Rugby Federation acknowledges and credit the DRFC board, coaching staff and their employees for their effort.
A special thanks to Jason and Elaine for their support of the club.
A special thanks to the current assistance national coach and former national players TalaI Mujalli and Mubarak Al Malik who helped with the ceremonial awards.
