Camels thrash Stallions 47-0

Defending champions Camels started off their campaign in the Sevens League on a confident note, thrashing Stallions 47-0 at the Aspire grounds last week.

Earlier, Camels had received a walk-over against Phoenix in a first round match, who could not field their side due to shortage of players.

Qatar international Rakan Mutawah, who won the MVP award, had two tries while Orisi Sarakei had three while Jope Tiko and Rita Beracifi had two each. Camels captain Illese Rakabu, who was outstanding last season, had two conversions to give his side a mammoth win.

“It was an easy match, but we should also try to win our next round of matches. It was the start and we hope to maintain the momentum throughout the tournament,” said Rakan.

Camels were simply unstoppable and the margin speaks volume about their domination. With their Fijians in good nick, last season’s winners should not have much of a problem against Doha 2s and Phoenix in the third and fourth round matches on Friday.

Meanwhile, Doha 2s also notched up a win, beating Stallions 19-12 in first round and also earned a walk-over against Khor.

Doha 2s’ most valuable player Thomas Jones had one try while Sean Curran had two tries and as many conversions. It was a close match which could have gone either way, but Doha 2s played with lot of determination to prevail over their opponents.

In other match, Lions also started their campaign on an impressive note, beating Pirates 29-0 in the last match of the evening.

The semifinals and finals will be held on November 25.
